THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

When it comes to counselling, finding a therapist who uses a therapeutic approach that suits you is a must. Here at Olive Buckley Therapy, I blend a mix of therapeutic methodologies in a holistic and integrative way to work best for individual clients.
I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach in regards to psychotherapy, which is why I work closely with my clients to establish a therapeutic approach that will fit your individual needs.
My main approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Person-Based Therapy, and Solution-Based Therapy. All therapies are conducted in a safe, open, comfortable, and judgement-free environment.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is based on the belief that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours work in connection with one another, and once stuck in a negative loop can present problems such as anxiety, stress, depression, mood swings, etc. CBT works by breaking problems down into smaller, more manageable parts and working to overcome the problems in a positive and optimistic manner. CBT works to equip the client with life skills to eventually deal with problems, worries, and struggles alone.

Person-Centred Therapy

Person-Centred therapy is a therapeutic approach that deals with the way that the client perceives themselves consciously, and is a humanist approach to therapy. This approach believes that the way a person perceives and reacts to their internal and external world effects how they act and feel, and works to make that life experience a more positive, peaceful, and enjoyable one.

Solution-Based Therapy

Solution-Based therapy is a method that focuses on the client’s present and future circumstances rather than the past. This therapy is usually a short-term solution for worries, issues, or struggles, and is a goal-oriented therapy that focuses on using very specific questions to work through immediate concerns or worries.

Therapeutic Approaches FAQ

How do I know what kind of counselling is the best for me?

Olive Buckley Therapy offers an integrative therapeutic approach for clients, altering the type of therapy given depending on your unique individual requirements. Before a therapeutic approach is decided on, clients are free to ask plenty of questions and get to know me to ensure that the approach I choose is the right one for them.

What is the best type of therapy?

There is no definitive answer to this, as different therapeutic approaches suit different people. For more information on my person-centred therapy and approach to blended counselling, get in touch.

What if counselling doesn’t work for me?

If you feel counselling isn’t working for you, I recommend letting your therapist know. This could be due to the fact that a particular approach might not suit you, but there are always alternatives to this that could help more.
